Was Your Email or Social Media Hacked?
Here’s what to do:
The Federal Trade Commission has some great resources available to consumers.
Recently a Consumer Alert was sent out with some great advice on what to do if your email or social media accounts were targeted. If personal information was obtained, they can use that info to commit identity theft, spread malware, or scam other people.
Here are some tips to watch for that may indicate your accounts were accessed:
- You get a notification that your email address, phone number or password was changed, but you didn’t make the changes
- You get a message that someone tried to log in, or did log in, and it wasn’t you
- You can’t log into your account
If you can’t log in, the FTC has provided some links to commonly used sites such as Facebook, Google and Instagram. Utilize the link provided and follow the provider’s account recovery instructions. You can find these links HERE.
